Here are the Internet marketing resources we most highly recommend (that will help you make the most of AdSense):
Keyword Research Tools
1. Yahoo Search Marketing View Bids Tool
This free tool shows you how much advertisers are paying on the pay-per-click search engine, Yahoo Search Marketing (formerly Overture), for each keyword. While there are certainly differences between the prices of keywords at Yahoo Search Marketing and Google, this tool can give you a general idea about the relative amounts paid for different keywords.
To use this tool, visit Yahoo Search Marketing and type in your first keyword and the security code. You'll get back a list of results, with the ad from the advertiser paying the most on the top. You'll also see the maximum prices advertisers are paying for your keyword. We recommend you look at the top five ads, because sometimes the top ad price is an anomaly.
2. Yahoo Search Marketing Keyword Selector Tool
This free tool allows you to find additional keywords on any topic, and to see the 'demand' for that keyword -- i.e., the number of searches for the
keyword the previous month. The location of this tool moves occasionally -- you can now find it here.
3. The 100 Highest Paying Keywords
The pay-per-click search engine, 7Search, has a free page on the 100 highest paying keywords. Unfortunately, it often 'times out' and gives you an error when you try to access the page. So you may need to be patient and try over and over again to get this list.
4. Google AdWords
Obviously, if you are a Google AdWords advertiser, you can use your AdWords account to experiment with keywords. This is a terrific way to do research if you advertise with AdWords.
5. Wordtracker
Perhaps our favorite tool is Wordtracker. Wordtracker offers a free report with the top 500 frequently searched words on the Internet. Note that these are the highest demand keywords -- not the highest paying keywords.
You can also get a free trial of their paid services. Wordtracker is one of the most useful tools available for doing keyword research, but it is not inexpensive. However, you can buy a daily or weekly pass and do a great deal of research in one swoop.
6. Ken Evoy's Site Build It!
One of our other favorite ways to do keyword research is to use Ken Evoy's excellent tools that come as part of
Site Build It! Definitely worth a look.
Search Engine Optimization Tools
1. Ken Evoy's Site Build It!
Site Build It! contains much more than keyword research tools. It also includes the 'Analyze it' tool that allows you to do quick research to help you rank highly in the free search engines. We've used 'Analyze it' to achieve many top ranking pages on Google -- even for some competitive keywords. Highly recommended.
2. Stephen Mahaney's Unfair Advantage Book on Winning the Search Engine Wars
Stephen's search engine optimization ebook and monthly newsletter are perhaps the best information resources on search engine optimization. We've subscribed for years. Stephen provides invaluable information for those interested in search engines.
Affiliate Programs
1. Ken Evoy's Affiliate Masters Course
This free Internet marketing course provides a great introduction to earning money through affiliate programs.
2. Allan Gardyne's Website
Allan's site, AssociatePrograms.com is an excellent free resource for those interested in learning about Internet marketing and affiliate programs.
3. James Martell's Affiliate Marketers Handbook
James Martell's Affiliate Marketers Handbook provides complete, step-by-step information on how to succeed with affiliate programs. There are lots of ebooks on this topic -- this is the best one.
